Ole Maytown #5

Langley/Maytown, KY

John's Branch Road follows Right Beaver Creek, then takes a bend to the left. Granny used to live in a grand ole' house in that bend, and she'd fish across the road, down by the creek bank, at the old grist mill site. Her boys used to trade chickens for grinding corn at the mill. She lived off the land, had a milk cow, canned her crops, and smoked hams in her smokehouse out back. The house went up in a blaze one night around-about 2005. Her oldest son, Townsel Allen Combs, planted the banks with black walnut tress so the car tires would shuck 'em and get 'em ready to harvest. He was a master-economizer.
